I know this is "econ" territory and economics, as a positive science, doesn't make value judgements. However, I would be curious how people feel about capitalism transforming Christmas into the premier materialistic event of the year.

As a thoroughly secular person, all of the Christmas traditions I value are the bastardized modern ones.
